(OPG) The Oculoplethysmography is used to detect a hemodynamically significant stenosis of the carotid circulation, by measuring the arrival times of pulses in the eye and ear. Indirectly the blood flow in the ophthalmic artery is measured, which branches off the carotid artery and supplies blood to the eye. A delay between pulse arrival in the eye and ear is an indication of a hemodynamically significant stenosis in the vessel whose corresponding pulse is delayed. Other ultrasound or angiography procedures are necessary to confirm the diagnosis and have also replaced this technique. See also Plethysmography and Ultrasound Biomicroscopy. [This entry is marked for removal.] 'POINT Biomedical was a privately held pharmaceutical company, founded in 1996 to pursue technologies related to imaging and drug delivery. POINT's core technology was based upon an ultrasonically responsive two-layer, biodegradable microsphere or BiSphere™. One of the most important features of this technology is the ability to noninvasively trigger the BiSpheres™ to release their contents at sites within the body using externally generated pulses of ultrasound. From this basic platform, POINT was developing a pipeline of products that leverage the unique properties of the BiSphere™ technology in the areas of imaging and therapeutics. POINT has initially focused development of this platform on the assessment of tissue specific blood flow. The lead product, CARDIOsphere®, is a pharmaceutical agent that will enable cardiologists to perform myocardial perfusion imaging studies in the office setting using ultrasound rather than more expensive and cumbersome nuclear medicine (or radioisotope) techniques.' The packet size is the number of sound bursts transmitted per color sector line. The accuracy of the estimated Doppler velocity is influenced by the packet size. A large packet size increases the accuracy of the mean flow velocity by decreasing the frame rate, the line density, or the sector angle. Dwell time, ensemble length or packet size are synonymous. •
Periorbital Doppler is a continuous wave Doppler examination, determining the amplitude, flow direction, and compression effect of the frontal or supraorbital arteries in the periorbital region. See also Acoustic Window, and Cerebrovascular Ultrasonography. Result Pages : |
